Vectorscope - Monitoring the Blind (CD)
released by Maor Appelbaum
Vectorscope is a dark experimental project by Israeli musician Maor Appelbaum, who beside this outfit, deals also with deep bass exploration (his another project Screening) and keyboard-based ambient (Lunisolar). He is also the man behind Maor Appelbaum label and recording studio which are the tools to produce, record and release mainly his musical creations.
Having listened to both debut albums by Vectorscope and Screening, I fully
declare that the former is far better when it comes to the diversity, composition
and layers of the (anti-) music. 'Monitoring the Blind' consists of 11 songs
which were created throughout 3 years (1999 - 2001). What we receive here is
quite solid album starting with very positive vibe and feeling of 'New Art'
and developing, reverbing, transforming throughout the whole playing time of
nearly 53 minutes. Maor Appelbaum tries his best not to bore the potential listener
and indeed, every particular song is able to attract the listening perception,
depicting every time another dimension of this organic music. I have to admit
that, as for the debut album, he did it and managed to create something worthy
and enjoyable. Based on the ambient tunes, layered with many different sound
textures and very often focused on the melody, this album leaves big hopes for
the future. I have been informed recently that the new album is already in the
works and will be darker than this one. Well, all I can do is wait and recommend
this offering because although it's not mind-blowing and revolutionary, it can
be a nice addition to the experimental music collection.
