Vultures 4 song EP, 2002.
Vultures open their new EP with a track entitled "Internal Plea," which I initially found very difficult to describe. But, as soon as the disc finished and started again from the top, my phone rang. I soon found myself explaining 'just what all the noise was about' to the person on the other end. "In a way, it makes me think of Steve Von Till (from Neurosis) doing vocals for a digital hardcore band." Indeed, Israel's Vultures strive for the same wall-of-sound effect that Neurosis if revered for, while screaming over pounding, distorted, guitar-infused, electronic music in the vein of bands like Atari Teenage Riot, Hypnoskull, KMFDM, or Cubanate. The result is likely to please fans of everything from power-noise, to aggro-industrial, to metal-core. Since the sound is not going to be familiar to most listeners, we may need a new term -- how about "apocalyptic techno-core?"
